Air Photos of Pine Ridge Grading Activity

Oak Ridge City Councilman Leonard Abbatiello flew over Pine Ridge on Sunday afternoon, September 30, and photographed the ongoing construction (destruction?) activity. Some of these photos have appeared in area newspapers. Click on any photo to see a larger version.

Aerial view of Pine Ridge, approaching from the west. In this aerial view of the approach to Pine Ridge, the intersection of South Illinois Avenue, Lafayette Drive, and Scarboro Road is at the lower left. Note the Y-12 Federal Credit Union building and Pine Ridge Office Park at the intersection. The Boeing Company plant is in the upper left. The Valley Industrial Park in Union Valley is beyond the ridge on the right side of the photo, and the University of Tennessee Arboretum and Forestry Experiment Station are in the upper right. Rogers quarry is visible at the top of the image.
Aerial view of Pine Ridge from the west. This aerial view of Pine Ridge from the west clearly shows the extent of the land-grading activity.

For orientation, the Pine Ridge Office Park is clearly visible in the lower left foreground and the Valley Industrial Park in Union Valley is on the right side of the photo.

Aerial view from above Pine Ridge. Visible in this photo are grading equipment and some of the numerous roads that criss-cross the site.

The Boeing overpass is at the top of the photo, South Illinois Avenue parallels the ridge on the left side, and the Valley Industrial Park is to the right.

Aerial view of Pine Ridge from the west. Note the sedimentation pond at the near end of the central valley. This pond is supposed to capture all runoff and sediment from the interior of the ridge. We do not know if its capacity is adequate for this purpose. This pond and other control structures were not in place on July 29 when large mudslides occurred.

For orientation, South Illinois Avenue and Pine Ridge Office Park are clearly visible on the left, and the Valley Industrial Park is on the right.
